The European furniture salons are all reflecting
a change in direction: design in the nineties will see a return
to restraint. The excesses of previous decades, the ideological
and technical overstatements of the post-war period and the formal
excesses of the eighties will be steered clear of. Andreas Brandolini,
one of the leaders of the Berlin avant-garde, encourages his students
to look for their inspiration in everyday life, to seek human contact,
to go to supermarkets and local shops
